Do you know what is done in a car service? If you are handy, then you might perform all your own services, but if you are like most people, you just drive it into the auto shop and leave it to the experts.
Let’s take a look at what is done in a car service, so you know where your money is being spent.
Old oil causes your car to run inefficiently, so it needs to be changed regularly. This will be included in your car service and the oil filter will be replaced at the same time.
The level of your brake fluid will be checked and topped up if necessary and your brake pads and rotors will be inspected as well. When you know what is done in a car service, you can discuss any brake problems with the mechanic and organise to have them repaired ASAP.
The mechanic will also check the level of other fluids: transmission, power steering, diff, coolant and windshield wipers, topping them up as necessary.
The oil filter will be replaced as noted above, but the air filter will also be inspected and replaced if needed.
Seatbelts, wipers, hoses, lights, A/C and tyres are all checked and if they need to be replaced or repaired, the mechanic will discuss these issues with you at the end of the car service.
If your exhaust isn’t operating correctly, your car will use more fuel, so the mechanic will check its operation and make sure that it’s attached safely and not corroded.
Steering and suspension
This will be checked during a road inspection and any problems discussed with you at the end of the service.
Apart from checking the transmission fluid, the operation of the transmission is also checked during the road test.
